1st Choice Mortgage had chaired the South Carolina Mortgage Broker’s Association Annual Golf Tournament since 1996, so in 2004 when the SCMBA decided not to have the tournament anymore, 1st Choice Mortgage decided to take it on ourselves. In doing so, we realized we could not run the money for the tournament through the company, so we created a non-profit organization in which to do the tournament. In June 2004, The Children’s Charity Golf Tournament was created and we filed through the IRS as a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit Organization. During the eight years the tournament was sponsored by the SCMBA, the tournament netted over $250,000 for children’s charities in the Greater Columbia, SC area. In 2004, as the Children’s Charity Golf Tournament, the tournament netted $22,000 each for The Carolina Children’s Home and Camp Kemo. In 2005, the tournament netted $24,127 which enabled CCGT to give a check to The Carolina Children’s Home for $12,000 and a check to Camp Kemo for $12,000. In 2006, CCGT netted a little over $20,000 and gave The Carolina Children’s Home and Camp Kemo $10,000 each. In 2007 and 2008, the Board of Director’s of The Carolina Children’s Home became responsible for securing sponsors for the tournament. CCGT has given the Carolina Children’s Home $54,128.78 in the past two years. |
